Polly, I mean Okie, Want a Cracker??

So many years ago my dad and mom bought this parrot in Oklahoma- they named him Okie. He is a double yellow headed parrot. Okie ended up living with one of my sisters. She has been whining on my fb everytime i post a picture of a cake-- "where's my cake" haha=== so I decided since i had some time on my hands to build her a cake

my first mistake was saying "well, what do you want your cake to look like?" of course she said- a parrot.. she didnt mean any parrot, she meant HER PARROT. he modeled for me the whole time though-- I think he was actually a little freaked out by the buiding of what we have become to call his girlfriend! so here it is ... btw-- this cake is totally edible.

Cruise anyone??

This ocean cruiser serves 300. All is edible, except the stacks. they are made of pvc pipe and have dry ice in them so they will 'smoke' the smoke is hard to see in the pics, as it begins to comeup out of the stacks--- I think it turned out pretty close to the school's logo for the event!

Calling all OU fans

I will apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures-- I took them with an iphone- i should invest in a decent camera :D

The BIGGEST fan of all OU fans that i know had to have me make him an OU cake for his mom's 73rd bday... quite a big birthday if you ask me... I wanted it to be special so since she is an OU fan as well I felt that I could bring my self to accept this task. However, as many of you know -- I bleed ORANGE :D... so as difficult as it was, we were able to build a partial football field (thanks to Jason) and then build the Sooner Schooner. Now, I have never seen this Schooner in person---only a picture so we will let you be the judge :D. primarily everything is edible-- there are a few pieces of support, but other than that-- edible! I hope that she has a great 73rd birthday! The flag was designed to stand up at the back of that wagon (apparently, they fly the flag while on the field) but I was afraid of the travel so they were going to place the flag upon arrival. hope you enjoy!

View at your own risk.

My husband said that this cake is too disturbing, ugly, weird, and disgusting to post. Ha- is there anything too disgusting to post within weeks of Halloween??? Not in this family!
The drawing was inspired by Staci--yes all the way from Japan. The cake/drawing/inspiration all for a really great friend. She is special. So, I asked Trey if he could make me a rough sketch of the vision Staci had and he did--I will post that picture first. Which of course I thought was a fantastic sketch and Trey said--" oh its in pen and took me like 5 mins'... whatever, it was perfect-- :D
anyway-- here is the cake-- all in its dusgustingness.
it is snow white--coming up out of a rotting apple. Snow is tattered--you can tell by the look in her eyes that 'she isn't right' her clothing is very tattered and far from the 'perfect Disney' character. the cake is the apple covered in first buttercream then fondant. Snow is ALL gumpaste as is the dwarf's head. The 'blood' is almost cooked red velvet cake-- therefore chunks in Snow's mouth kinda look like the dwarf's brain. the apple totally ROTTING!!!! check it out!

My youngest daughter turned 21 this weekend. Yes-- 21-- yes- she still wanted a 'barbie' cake like she was still 8! She gave me a picture of Marie Antoinette-- (in case you didn't know she is a little obsessive about Marie). anyway, she gave me a picture that showed about 1/2 the dress. so i made up the rest. I had never seen the entire dress so I am sure I am not even close. Dress and ruffles, belt and earrings made from homemade mm fondant and gumpaste. cake was red velvet (of course so she 'bled' when we cut her)! Heather is funny huh? happy birthday "D

wedding cake?

well here we go-- this is my daughter's wedding cake-- 7 tiers-- yep-- count them-- 7 tiers... not only did she have 7 tiers, but it was decorated in an unconventional manner. It had a special coconut icing, rather than buttercream or fondant-- then COVERED in COCONUT.

buttercream

Ahhh buttercream. Seems to be everyone's favorite. My husband despises fondant. I make some pretty tasty homemade marshmallow fondant- but no-- he hates it. He has gone as far as taking 'polls' at weddings--yes--polls.

Here is the latest buttercream cake -- 3 tiered traditional, very simple white wedding cake with sugar gumpaste daisies. and topped with Star Wars characters!

Blast from the Past Part 2

Since my mother is so busy, I thought I would do a little update for her. Here's a 3D cake she use to make all the time. She was making 3D cakes before Duff had even thought about making cakes. She is amazing, if you didn't already know that. Hopefully she will have a bakery of her own one day!

Definately Summer!

I am personally not a big fan of summer-time. I would much prefer a snowy day or a house that is set to the coldest you can get it and a nice fluffy blanket to snuggle up in.

However, since Lindsay loves going to the beach we decided that some sort of beach-themed cake would be appropriate. Thanks to Hiroka for coming home and helping out with the small detail pieces! it was really fun to work on it together.
I really hope Lindsay likes it!

Green is apparenlty the color of the season

We delivered the wedding cake and grooms cake without a hitch on Saturday. Then proceeded to help with the wedding as this was one of our friends daughter's wedding. It was indeed a long couple of days and of course on the next... It seems that practically every wedding this summer has some sort of green. I am glad that our daughter has chosen to be different-- black and white with touches of red.
here is a picture of the groom's cake. The groom has a thing for maps, so of course his cake was a map--
Kudos to Heather and my husband, for helping out with the 'rolling' of the fondant' and cutting of the continents!!

The bride and groom both have a 'thing for threes' not really sure what the is about- lucky number I guess. So, the cake was 3 tiers, just white cake with buttercream and covered in slightly off white fondant.
here is a picture of the bride's cake

I traveled to Texas for the birthday boy. We had a crazy busy fun week. It took 2 days, lots of hours, and of course lots of love. The cake is done. I was so 'involved', that I totally forgot to the document the making of it. Sorry, Staci. hopefully you will forgive :)

Decorating cakes became a fun past time for me about 20 years ago. My wonderful friend Carolyn and I took classes together from a fantastic and fun teacher so long ago! We learned lots and had a ton of fun!
I have taught cake decorating classes at many locations over the years. Right now I am not teaching, just 'doing'. I really love to sculpt cakes and make many different designs. Buttercream is my specialty, but I really make a great homemade fondant!

I am headed to God's country to do a 3D tRex cake for my nephew's 5th birthday. Always special times with him and the little one. He wants a Trex that is blue (well he is gett
ing green) and with big teeth. He wants the inside red like bloody-- ha- gotta love 4 year olds.

I am posting a couple of pictures from their past birthdays.
Here is his cake from his 4th birthday
